The sink drains a little slower, water accumulates around your feet in the shower, and odd and unpleasant odors pervade. No, you are not suffering from indigestion. Your drain is plugged. Before things get too serious, here are a few tried-and-true cocktail recipes to try:
1. The Hangman – Simple and to the point. Straighten an ordinary wire coat hanger. Then, to make a little hook, bend one end over. Start fishing after pushing it past the drain cover. This should clear out the drain of any debris. Always remember to draw dirt out rather than pushing it further. Pour hot water once you've pulled out as much as you can. This should help to clarify things.
2. The Hot Fizz – Fill a pot with boiling water and pour it down the drain. As it fizzes, pour a combination of 1/3 cup vinegar and 1/3 cup baking soda. Cover with a drain plug and set aside for at least one hour. It would be excellent if you could stay overnight. Using a kettle of boiling water, flush once more.
3. The Sucker Punch – A plunger is an excellent instrument for clearing drains by creating a suction and expelling the dirt that has clogged them.
Traps and meshes, which are easier to clear, are other non-comedic ways to keep your drains from clogging. Oils that have dripped down the drain freeze in cold temperatures, which can clog and even shatter pipes in extreme cases, which is why drain cleaning products can help.
